O×O — Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the questions players ask most. For the full rules, see the how-to-play guide.
Playing the game
What is O×O?
O×O is a free ring-stacking strategy game. It is played on a 3×3 board where each cell holds three nested ring sizes, and you win by making three in a row in one of three different ways.
How do I win?
Three ways: three same-size rings of your colour in a line; all three of your sizes stacked in one cell; or a graduated small-medium-large line along a row, column, or diagonal.
Can two rings of different players share the same cell?
Yes. Because rings nest by size, one cell can hold a large ring from one player, a medium from another, and a small from a third at the same time.
What happens if I cannot make a move?
If you cannot play a piece, you skip your turn. Play continues until someone completes a winning line.
Can I move a piece after placing it?
No. Once a piece is placed it stays where it is for the rest of the game.
How does the two-player game use four colours?
In two-player mode each side controls two colours that sit opposite each other. You can win with either colour, but you cannot combine the two colours to form a single winning line.
Online play and ratings
Is O×O free?
Yes. The full game is free in the browser and on Android. An optional premium upgrade removes ads and lifts daily limits on ranked and private games.
How does online ranked play work?
Create or join a room and play live against another player. Ranked games are rated — winning raises your rating and losing lowers it — and results feed a global leaderboard.
What are the tiers?
Ratings map to tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Your tier reflects your current rating and updates as you play.
What happens if my opponent disconnects or runs out of time?
Each turn has a timer. If a player's time expires or they disconnect, the game resolves automatically — through a timeout or resignation — so matches always reach a clean result. Players can also offer or agree to a draw.
Can I watch other people's games?
Yes, spectating is supported, along with in-game chat during matches.
Account, languages, and platforms
Which languages are supported?
English and Arabic, including a full right-to-left layout for Arabic. You can switch at any time and your choice is saved to your profile.
Do I need an account?
You can play local games without an account. Online ranked play, the leaderboard, and history require signing in so your rating and results can be saved.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. O×O runs in mobile browsers and is also available as a native Android app.
